World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
The upgrade of an item lets players increase the gear rating of an item by up 700 points and also add a final bonus. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you decide to take them to the Kiln.
Certain items can be upp'd to increase their stats (like an ideally broken point armour that is rolled for melee PvP) while other items, such as weapons do not vary greatly post upgrade, so they aren't worth upgrading.
Weapons
Weapons can be upgraded to increase their numeric stats, such as damage to attack, crit chance as well as PvE and damage to PvP. They also have a flat bonus which increases the damage they deal per second. Additionally, many weapons have a set bonus which is activated when three or more of the same weapon is present on a unit. In some instances, this bonus could amount to more than the amount of damage that a weapon upgrades on its own.
The cost of upgrading a weapon depends on its rarity as well as its current level. For example, an +2 weapon will require two regular Smithing Stones while a+3 requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade the weapon will continue to increase until it is required to use a higher tier of Smithing Stones, at which the number will be reset to one.
Upgrades to weapons can also alter the stats of their base. This is usually a positive thing, but it can also have negative consequences. Upgrades can make items unusable, unless you are very lucky.

The upgrade template of a weapon will display the new stats that it will gain upon upgrading, as well as the relative values of those stats. This means that a weapon will gain an attack damage of 3% if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. The 3% does not mean that the weapon will strike three times less, since it is an absolute number.

Armor
A few armor upgrades can make a huge difference to your survivability. Certain sets can offer MASSIVE increases in poison or curse, fire or magic resistance, which can make traversing tough areas a breeze. In general, the greater defense your character is, the more value you will get from each point of health you possess therefore it is important to upgrade your armor as often as you can.
You can upgrade your armor by visiting one of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are four of them each of which requires you to complete a special side-quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've completed the primary side quest and mastered the fountain that corresponds you'll be able to talk to any Great Fairy to open up the armor upgrading menu.
Each piece of armor can be upgraded up to three levels and the amount of material and Rupees needed for each will vary. You'll need anywhere between three Red Chuchu jelly and 10 Rupees to upgrade the first armor piece, and between five Rubies or 10 Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns to upgrade each subsequent one. For example, the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, which allows you to keep pace with a large group of enemies in the majority of cold conditions, and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded all the way to +20 defense, granting the protection needed to survive the full-on assault with a few friends.
You can't upgrade armor in the same way as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior, you should focus on upgrading your armor for physical strength or spell power. It's also a good idea to save your armor upgrades for armor you'll be wearing at the end of the game, like the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield or the helmet you use to fight the final boss and the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.
By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town in Gerudo Town, you can unlock perks for your armor. Generally, you'll want to save these upgrades for the weapon you'll use to beat the game, such as the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer However, it is beneficial to have a few upgrades to your chest armor and helmets to allow you to stealth around some monsters.
Potions
Potions are liquid substances that, when consumed, provide the user with an effect on their status for a short period of time. There are five different types of potions, each with a specific set of effects and durations. Some potions can be upgraded, enhancing their level of effect. You can also enhance the effects of certain potions by adding glowstone dust and redstone.
Potion upgrades require a certain amount of XP. This can be earned by making them on a craft table or by storing them in the Alchemist chest. The cost of upgrading varies based on the type of potion used and the item's rarity and Mark Level.
To upgrade a potion to the next level, right-click on it in your inventory and select the "Upgrade" option from the menu. This will open a GUI which allows you to select the potion you would like to upgrade and the amount of experience they will offer when upgraded. The upgrade of potions can be completed in batches of up to five at a single time, and the XP they earn will be added to your current XP level.
Once a potion is upgraded and stored, it will not degrade unless you use it again or break the bottle within which it is kept. Clicking on the potion in your inventory will allow you to change the name of the potion.
Version 1.7.2 introduced a few modifications to the mechanics of potions. Splash potions, for example are now available with a time of zero, not the 22.5 seconds displayed on the hover display of the item. The table of potion can now be made using four Wood Planks and two Glass. This allows it to be utilized by players in Survival and Bedrock. Bedrock Edition potions are not compatible with cauldrons like Java Edition. This is the same for using a potion within a cauldron that is full. This will deplete the liquid, and then refill the bottle.
Finally, there are simmering potions made using splash and dragon breath potions. Redstone can be added to potions that are lingering to increase their effect. The table of potion ingredients is rearranged to look more like the Java Edition. New potions have also been added for instance, the potion of leaping and decomposition.
Trinkets
A trinket could be an ornamental item that is small, cheap or piece jewelry. It could also refer to an ornament or object that serves a purpose, but isn't important, like a Thimble. In some cultures a trinket can be used to express affection or friendship between family members.
Trinkets can be upgraded by players as well as weapons, armor, and potions. They can be upgraded by visiting an upgrade vendor and paying the appropriate amount in currency. Trinkets like other items that can be upgraded can be exchanged at any time without losing stats.
Upgrade vendors are located at the capitals of every zone, and sometimes in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are available with gold, tokens, or fragments from rare trinkets.
Upgrades are a less expensive alternative to purchasing a new trinket. One can upgrade their trinket for as little 12 tokens. The new trinket will have the same base ilvl of the old one, and will have an additional 1% upgrade bonus.
Once the old Trinkets have become no longer useful, they can be upgraded. This allows players to increase their power and value with time. They can be traded between players and are a viable alternative to gold.
In general players should make upgrades to their highest priority items first. This means that the top-in slot items for each class are upgraded first then their secondary gear and finally other equipment that they will not replace in the near future (such as an earring or a cloak). When choosing which items to upgrade, players must also take into account the preferred statistics of their class. If Haste and Crit are two of the most important stats to tank players and they want to upgrade their chest, helm, and shoulders.
Trinkets can be upgraded to a higher level once they're no longer needed and the new trinket can be upgraded to have an additional 1% upgrade bonus. Re-upgrading will destroy the trinket unless it is saved using the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a higher tier salvage tool. This means upgrading trinkets is more expensive than other upgrades, but is still cheaper than buying the new one.
